PIANO MOVING COST

Piano moves are generally done on a flat rate basis, and the cost varies depending on the type of piano you have and the locations you are moving it to and from. Upright pianos are cheapest to move, and grands are the most expensive. 

Piano moving costs more than regular moving simply because the piano is heavy, large, and delicate. Extra care has to be taken to move it carefully while also having to move much more weight than a normal piece of furniture. The extra charge allows us to use our best movers and equipment to make sure that your piano goes from Point A to Point B safely. It might seem tempting to hire cheaper movers for the job, but the money you save isn’t worth it if they drop the piano or damage your walls and doorways in the process of moving it. 

Depending on how much your piano weighs and how many stairs the movers have to deal with, the cost could be anywhere from the $350 on the low end to $1000+ range on the high end. (Please note that if we are doing a full move for you and you own a piano, we will work with you on the cost. The above prices are for when we are only moving a piano.)

EQUIPMENT WE BRING TO MOVE YOUR PIANO

-This depends a lot on you and your situation. Some upright pianos don’t need any equipment to be moved, just a lot of muscle. Grand pianos need a lot of equipment to be moved safely. 

-For upright pianos, we typically bring back straps, moving blankets, 2-3 movers, and four wheel dollies. We can also bring a moving truck with a lift gate for a particularly heavy upright piano (there may be an extra charge for this). 

-For grand pianos, we typically bring lots of moving blankets, a piano board, four wheel dollies, tools to detach the legs from the piano, 4 movers, straps to secure the piano to the piano board and dollies, back straps, a lift gate truck when available, and anything else needed for you specific piano (let us know ahead a time if you think anything special might be needed to move your piano).
